In Zambia, the volunteer program "Mission Kindness" has officially launched.
Russian doctors have started their work at the University Teaching Hospital and have already participated in several complex surgical operations. Zambian specialists have carefully selected clinical cases for each member of the delegation.
On November 5, Anatoly Atasov, an oncologist, maxillofacial, and plastic surgeon, performed a five-hour operation with his Zambian colleagues to remove a stage 4 malignant tumor of the upper jaw.
“Despite the extensive tumor process, the conglomerate was removed radically. The patient will now undergo chemotherapy and radiation therapy, followed by a long rehabilitation and prosthetic treatment,” said Anatoly Atasov right after the operation.
Obstetricians, gynecologists, and neonatologists are providing emergency medical care to Zambian mothers until late in the evening.
The Russian volunteers also plan to hold a series of theoretical sessions on obstetrics for local medical professionals. Organizers: Rossotrudnichestvo, the Russian House in Lusaka, the Association of Volunteer Centers, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Zambia, the University Teaching Hospital, and the Presidential Grants Foundation. International partner:
